Visit the Olive Groves

Speaking of key Aegina places to visit, let’s talk about the famous olive groves.
Stroll through these fields on your own or connect with a local farm for a guided tour where you can learn about traditional olive cultivation and its importance in Greek culture.

Don’t forget to taste some freshly pressed olive oil and buy a bottle to take home with you.

See Temple of Aphaia

The Temple of Aphaia is one of Aegina’s most important historical sites and is located on a hill that overlooks the island. The ancient temple is dedicated to the goddess Aphaia and dates back to the 5th century BC.

This must-see Aegina attraction is 6 euro and I recommend adding it to your itinerary, especially if you love architecture and history.

Want to learn the history of this historical site? Why not take a private tour to the Temple of Aphaia and Aegina too!

Eat A Gyro

You cannot leave Greece without trying a gyro, the world-known pita sandwich stuffed with juicy tender meat, fresh tomatoes, onions, fries, and tangy tzatziki sauce. Just as a side note, if you see any place adding lettuce to a gyro, run! This is a tourist trap and far from an authentic gyro.

It is the go-to casual meal to eat after a long day of exploring. Whatever your Aegina itinerary looks like, be sure to grab a gyro from Hasapiko in Aegina Town. You might end of having two!

Take A Boat To Moni Island

Moni Island on a sunny day

Moni Island is a small uninhabited island known for its crystal-clear waters and tranquil environment. Not only can you swim or lounge in the sun, but there is hiking as well. Wildlife such as peacocks, deer, and goats can be spotted as well. It is highly advised you don’t approach the animals and I suggest you don’t. There are also sun beds, bar food, and drinks as well.

To reach Moni Island you can catch the ferry from Perdika where all the restaurants are. Roundtrip tickets are 6 euros, be sure it is cash as credit cards are not accepted there. You will be given a ticket and will return it on your way back to Perdika.

Most of the place is in ruins, but the remains still offer a glimpse of how stunning ancient Greek architecture was, and how important Apollo is in Greek mythology.

During the summer months, you can visit this temple for 12 euros from 8 AM- 8 PM every day.  Hours vary after the summer season. If you plan on visiting after you can check out opening hours here

Shop The Ceramics From Local Artists

One of the best things to do in Aegina, Greece is browsing local artisan markets for unique gifts. You can find beautiful, handcrafted pottery that reflects traditional Greek designs, as well as modern pieces and designs. Usually, I get small plates from cities I visit as souvenirs, so I always keep my eye out for these markets!

Lounge At The Beaches

Aegina’s beaches are ideal for relaxing and getting sun-kissed. It will be some of the most refreshing water you can take a dip in while visiting the Greek Islands.

Paralia Marathona has a peaceful environment where you can sunbathe and swim. However, if you want an area a little more lively, consider visiting Bocampo Bar. At this beach bar, you can purchase a sun bed, food, and cocktails while you’re at the beach. It’s a very laid-back environment and I honestly didn’t wanna leave. The water, views, and cocktails were the perfect concoction!

If you’re looking for a more lively atmosphere, then take a trip to Aegina Agia Marina. Expect the water to be shallow, but you may spot some sea turtles here. Sun beds and umbrellas are available to rent and there are plenty of restaurants by the seashore if you develop an appetite.
