Chrissy Agistri is just a short ferry ride away from Athens, home of crystal-clear waters, secluded beaches, and thrilling water sports. In this post, I’ll share the top things to do in Agistri, Greece that will make your trip the best one you’ll ever have (spoiler alert: all of them are so cheap I consider them free!)

Things To Do In Agistri
Let’s begin our journey for all the exciting things to do in Agistri, Greece for a memorable quick visit or day trip.
Go Beach Hopping
Beach hopping is a must on your Agistri itinerary. The island is filled with some of the clearest waters I have ever seen. Below are some of the beaches that I highly recommend you visit while in Agistri.
Aponisos Beach is like a mini island on Agistri where you cross a cement bridge to get to it. For 6 euros you can enter the island and admission includes a sun bed with an umbrella. If you want a little more cushion on your sun bed, it’s an additional 5 euros. This was personally my favorite beach on the island. Besides some of the clearest water on Agisitri, you can call for food and drink service from your sun bed.
Dragonera Beach is a pebbly beach surrounded by pine trees, ideal for a quiet swim. You can find this beach on the west side of Agistri. Not only does this beach offer some tasty and fresh food you can indulge in, but you can also enjoy the beach parties that are held every Saturday.
One of the most popular beaches in Agistri is Skala Beach. Plenty of restaurants, souvenir shops, bars, and cafes align with the beach. The ocean is shallow here and I found it to have the perfect temperature compared to the other beaches. Several of the beach clubs offer sun beds and prices vary depending on where you go.
Megalochori Beach or Mylos Beach is a less crowded beach with calm waters, perfect for unwinding. There are a few restaurants, bars, and cafes you can explore here and still avoid the crowds.

Visit Aponisos Island
If you’re looking for fun Agistri, Greece activities then you definitely should visit Aponisos Island. It is a small private island connected to Agistri, accessible by a short boat ride, and famous for its clear waters, rocky landscapes, and peaceful environment.
As mentioned above there is a cover to enter the island.
Go Horseback Riding
One of the best things to do in Agistri I highly recommend you experience is horseback riding. It is an incredible activity to discover the island’s natural beauty, including the pine forests, olive groves, and beaches.
At Aponisos Horse Riding they offer guided tours for both beginners and experienced riders.
Stroll Skala
Strolling Skala is another free Agistri, Greece activity I highly recommend you add to your itinerary. The area is the heart of Agistri’s tourist scene, and it’s filled with shops, cafes, and traditional tavernas. Skala is the perfect spot to enjoy the city on foot and and it’s lively atmosphere!
Get A Thrill With Water Sports
You’ll find water sports in every ‘what to do in Agistri, Greece’ list, especially jet skiing, paddle boarding, and windsurfing. These are incredible activities to have fun and enjoy the crystal clear waters, which you can find in many rental spots around the island.

Go Hiking
The island offers several hiking trails that lead through lush pine forests and along scenic coastal paths. Popular routes include the trails from Skala to Dragonera and from Megalochori to Aponissos. I personally recommend going hiking here if the weather is is not to hot.
Take A Day Trip To Aegina
Aegina is a beautiful island, just a short ferry ride away, with so much to offer. A rich history, including the Temple of Aphaia and the Holy Monastery of the Holy Trinity.
Aegina is also known as the pistachio island and has some of the best pistachio ice cream I have ever eaten. If you can’t fit Aegina into your Agistri itinerary, there are plenty of places to try some in Skala.
And I can’t begin to talk about how stunning the beaches are in Aegina, with the iconic crystal waters! It’s definitely a must-visit destination you should add to your things to do in Agisitri.
Rent A Bike And Explore
Another one of my favorite things to do in Agistri was to explore the island by renting a bike. The roads are quiet and scenic, perfect for seeing the island at your own pace.
There’s hardly any traffic or aggressive drivers, which makes the bike ride a peaceful activity. You can ride between both ports on Agistri easily as well. Just note there are some steep hills if you plan on riding around the island on a bike which can make it a little challenging.
If you prefer not to pedal manually like me, electric bikes are available. It’s easy to rent a bike there are rental shops everywhere in Skala.
Indulge In The Greek Cuisine
After a long day of fun Agistri, Greece activities, you must indulge in some Greek cuisine at local taverns. Some foods I beg you to try include fresh seafood, such as the mussels from Little Wine, Little Sea. Here. Besides the good food, you have an amazing view of the sea.
For one of the best souvlakis, I recommend you grab one from Gyrobank. I indulged and ate a gyro here every day. Sometimes two (don’t judge)!

Go Shopping
Shopping is one of my favorite things about traveling, as I get to purchase handcrafted items and learn more about local artisans. The areas of Skala and Megalochori have a wide variety of boutiques that offer handmade products, including unique souvenirs, jewelry, and Greek-made clothing.
See Agioi Anargyroi Church
If you’re looking for more Agistri, Greece free activities then Agioi Anargyroi Church is a must-visit. The charming blue-domed church is located near Skala Beach and is a popular place to give you that Cycladic beauty.
Take A Kayak Tour Of Agistri
Explore the island from a different perspective by taking a guided kayak tour. Paddle along the coastline and discover hidden caves and secluded beaches to later relax in.
There are multiple kayak rentals along the island that charge per hour, with affordable rates, and often include a brief lesson.
Where Is Agistri
Agistri is a small, serene island in the Saronic Gulf, close to Athens, Greece. It’s known for its natural beauty, crystal-clear waters, and super relaxed atmosphere, making it a perfect getaway if you need a break from the business of Athens.
How To Get To Agistri
There are two ways to get to Agistri, both by ferry:
- Ferry from Athens: With departure from the port of Piraeus in Athens, the journey to Agistri takes about 1 to 1.5 hours depending on the ferry type.
- Flying Dolphin Service: A faster ferry that can take you to Agistri in around 55 minutes, with more comfortable seats but a higher price. It also departs from the port of Piraeus.
Best Time To Visit Agistri
The best time to visit Agistri is from May to October when the weather is warm and sunny, perfect for beach activities and outdoor exploration. Visiting on the shoulder months of May, June, September, and October, also offers good weather and fewer crowds, but be mindful that many shops and rental spots tend to close during the off-season.
Getting Around Agistri
Depending on your activities, budget, and time availability, you can get around Agistri using these options:
- Public transport: Including local buses and taxis, but with infrequent services and long waiting periods.
- Bike or scooter: Renting a bike or scooter is popular and allows you to easily explore the island.
- Walking: Since the island is small, you can do most of your exploration on foot and is great for shorter distances if you’re looking to add in some exercise and save money.
